The History of Chem Stretch
Chem Stretch was founded in 1989, having a single office in Stevensville, Maryland. In the early years our only product was stretch wrap which we dropped shipped directly from the manufacturer to our customer. By the summer of 1993 the sales of the company had grown to support our first warehouse which was located in Hanover, Maryland.
This was the first step in fulfilling our commitment to becoming a full service distributor. By 1996 we had added 4 customer service personnel, two full time delivery truck drivers, contracts with three nationwide trucking carriers, full time warehouse personnel, UPS service, and 12 sales people. At this point in time sales had grown from seven hundred, and fifty thousand to 5 million dollars annually.
In the summer of 1997 the vision to grow and again service our customers more efficiently brought about the merger of Chem Stretch, Inc., and Performance Packaging located in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. With the merger we were able to better service our customers in MD, VA, DE, PA, NJ, and Washington DC. Also combining the two companies allowed us to expand our product lines which, as you can see from this website, have come a long way from just stretch film.
By the year 2000 we had sales in excess of fifteen million dollars. In the year 2003 the owners decided it was time to invest in a property location that would allow us to commit to special stocking programs, stock a larger list of items, and to service our customers with next day delivery service. This brought about the search for the perfect facility which would be convenient to our customers and our employees.
In February of 2003 we went to settlement on our new 40,000 square foot facility in Forest Hill, Maryland. Also to insure that all deliveries continued to go out in a timely manner, we added tractor trailer service to our delivery fleet.
The next missing piece in our plan to be a full service distributor had to do with equipment service. This is an area where we knew with the right personnel we could set ourselves apart from almost all of our competitors. In march of 2004 we hired our first service manager with over 25 years of experience in servicing of stretch, shrink, strapping, and tape equipment, but also has design capabilities to help resolve problems that our customers were facing.
In May of 2004 we added our second technician and in 2005 added our third. As of 2011 we have 4 full-time in-house technicians and 250 contracted technicians and cover the entire United States. All of our service technicians have company vans that are stocked with a wide array of parts to keep your equipment running 24/7.
Projected Sales for 2012 will come in somewhere around 23 million dollars.
The one thing that we hope you take away from all of this is our company's vision to be something special. We have grown and prospered on that premise. We treat all customers equally whether it be one of many national accounts or a small company that just needs one case of tape.
We truly enjoy the opportunity to serve.
